Hygienist
Like many modern dental practices we have a hygienist who works alongside our dentists and we encourage our patients to discuss any problems or concerns with her. A large proportion of the population suffer unknowingly from gum related problems and one of the main causes of tooth loss is gum disease. Regular visits to our hygienist will allow us to prevent or deal with any problems, and with your co-operation we can work together to help you maintain a healthy mouth and keep your teeth for life. Healthy gums are the foundation for all the work we do, we firmly believe that regular professional cleaning helps to keep your mouth healthy, gives you fresh breath and improves your appearance and self-confidence.
We aim to help patients achieve and maintain the best dental health possible. Prevention is a very important aspect of our services. We feel it is at the core of our dental care to allow us to provide excellent dental health at the Whitley Dental Clinic.
We highly recommend sessions with one of our three hygienists to help develop good oral hygiene through good home habits and preventative care.
Many of our patients are on preventative monthly payment schemes which include a set number of hygiene visits per year to help maintain oral health. Our plans start from £11.70 per month. If you are interested in joining one of our schemes please contact the practice for more details. The monthly payment scheme will register you with one of our dentists and if you wish the dentist of your choice. This will mean you and your family will be seen by the same dentist to allow continuity and hygienist appointments will also be attended for preventative care.
Our hygienist’s main aims
Remove calculus (tartar) from the teeth (scaling)
Cosmetic stain removal – staining can develop from everyday food and drink and can cause superficial staining on the teeth. This is removed by polishing.
Treatment for gum disease (gingivitis or chronic adult periodontal disease)
Promote and teach good oral hygiene techniques and habits to maintain oral health (this will be specifically designed for your mouth and needs)
Hygiene services are available
Mondays 9 am – 6pm
Fridays 9am – 4.15pm
Saturdays 9am – 12.45pm*
To find out more or to book an appointment please call or email the practice.
Direct Access
Due to changes in regulation you may now access the hygienist directly without the need to see a dentist. This means if you have a special occasion or you just wish to see the hygienist you can book directly. Please note our hygienist can only undertake treatment which is within their scope of practice and they adhere to the guidelines set out by the GDC.
This means for more advanced conditions a prescription may be required by a dentist, consultation with a dentist or further appointments may be required to complete treatment.
Hygiene appointments do not replace the need to see a dentist on a regular basis. If any additional costs are required patients will be made fully aware in advance and costs will be agreed.
*(one Saturday per calendar month, appointments can be booked up to 6 months in advance
If required, a dentist will also available during the Saturday sessions)
